Jana Gana Mana
Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with many students of families who originally hail from India. This is my arrangement of India’s beautiful national anthem, composed by Rabindranath Tagore. (It’s played by a first year student in a duet with me.) Tagore was awarded the 1913 Nobel Prize for Literature—the first non-European to be so honored. In receiving this prestigious award, Tagore was cited for his “profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse, by which, with consummate skill, he has made his poetic thought, expressed in his own English words, a part of the literature of the West.”
