When Aaron Shearer wrote his Learning the Classic Guitar method, he collaborated with composer Alan Hirsh to write music that dovetailed with his method. “Humoreske” is the last duet in this method. It’s a mixed meter piece, offering the challenge of correctly counting while playing with a teacher’s part that doesn’t always match the student part—the student must often play measures of 6/8 against a teacher’s part of 3/4. I’ve always liked this quirky little piece. So I convinced one of my young students to learn it. We recorded it during a lesson.
